"Tapering during training for the FLORA London Marathon is extremely important. It’s essential to taper your training so that you’re ready for the big day. I ease up on both the time and length of runs and my last long run, at race pace, is two weeks before the big day – then no more speed or hills. Do not be fooled into thinking that one more big push will help to shave a few minutes off your personal best. In fact, in my last three days I do no running at all. My personal rituals include getting my favorite running gear out and placing it neatly so that it is ready in the morning – my number already pinned to my vest along with the chip to my laces. In my bag I have my tub of Vaseline, money, mobile phone, change of running vest and anything else I think I may need. I have an early dinner, usually grilled fish or meat, with potatoes and a couple of glasses of wine. Before bed I’ll have some herbal tea, fruit and a biscuit or two."
