Tea

Good for the people

We buy around 12% of the world’s black tea supply. PG tips tea is now fully Rainforest Alliance Certified and 50% of Lipton tea already comes from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms with our mission to be fully certified 2015.  By 2012 Lyons tea will also be certified.

The Rainforest Alliance accreditation means our tea plantation in Kericho, Kenya isn't just producing great-tasting tea, it's making a real difference.

Covering 1,500 hectares of conserved wetlands and natural forests, Kericho is home to 75,000 people, 15,000 of which work on the plantation, benefiting from good working and living conditions and decent wages – things many of us take for granted.

We provide free housing and education for workers and their families. We also offer free medical care at our fully equipped hospital and across four health centres, including HIV/AIDS programmes

  • Kericho was the first tea plantation in the world to be Rainforest Alliance Certified™ (2007).
  • Free housing, medical care and schools are provided for over 75,000 people.
